Mission

At HFP it is our mission to change the way the world thinks about athletic performance. We believe your health and wellness should not come at the expense of achieving your goals, but is actually the key foundation of your long term performance and success. We use a unique and holistic method to help our athletes overcome their unique challenges and build the foundations of anti-fragility, health, education, and habits needed to achieve their goals.

 Patrick Keating’s Story

Patrick Keating

Consistent major injuries sidelined me from the sport I loved growing up. For 10 years running I spent half the year injured with injuries to my knees, groin, calf, lower back, hamstring and more.

After a two and a half year battle with Osteitis Pubis, I was fed up with the completely ineffective rehab guidance I received from multiple physiotherapists.I was studying Sports Science at the University of Queensland and I felt driven to find my own solutions.

So I researched tirelessly, consulted the best coaches I could find, and experimented with my own methods. After two and a half years of rehab professionals telling me “we really don’t know much about Osteitis Pubis, just keep doing your groin stretches and maybe get another MRI”, I was back playing within 3 months of my own training and rehab program, and after five months I was completely pain free.

This experience inspired me to help other underserved athletes, and after university I started coaching people of all ages with all kinds of challenges. I worked in multiple gyms with different philosophies, I spent 10’s of thousands on the best movement coaches I could find, and continually refined and developed my training systems.

Alongside my interest in physical training, I started learning about health and lifestyle more generally; mental health and mindset , sleep, nutrition, stress and state management, and habit formation and behaviour change. I incorporated these aspects into my own training and coaching and saw the holistic incredible benefits of addressing the whole system.

Just when things were coming together I faced my hardest challenge yet. In a game of Football I ruptured my ACL and seriously damaged 7 other crucial structures in my knee after receiving a perfectly timed shove when changing direction at speed. It was 6 months until I could walk without a significant limp, 9 until I could shuffle along at barely a jog.

Two years on, and I can safely say that I wouldn’t be the coach I am today without that experience. I created HFP primarily to help prevent other athletes from experiencing what I have experienced. The holistic method that we have developed is integral to overcoming all types of challenges that are currently dragging you down, whether they be physical, mental, or with your lifestyle habits. My Goal is to raise the standard of athletic performance coaching and provide truly world-class methodologies for creating long term performance and helping athletes achieve their goals.

The HFP Method

(if you want uncommon results, you have to do things differently)

Unlocks previously untapped potential.

To understand why the HFP Method is so unique and effective we will use an analogy… Imagine your performance like a car, you have a brake and an accelerator. Most athletes are 110% on the accelerator and 90% on the brake at the same time. This means they are pushing so hard and at the same time they don’t realise that they are working against themselves!

The HFP Method achieves uncommon results compared to other training systems because most other training systems focus on squeezing 5-10% more performance from pushing even harder on the accelerator. Short term gain for long term pain and failure. In contrast, the first focus of The HFP Method is helping athletes take their foot off the brake by identifying how they are already working against themselves. It is this skill in working with our athletes to identify and target their unique physical, mental, and lifestyle/habits limitations that unlocks so much untapped potential for them. This builds a long-term bulletproof foundation from which we teach you how to intelligently push for higher performance without the risk of burnout of injury.

  • insert graphic about 110% and 90% =20% realised potential, where as 90% and 10%= 80% realised potential

  • could use this as ‘before program -> after program’ style

  • coule use ice berg graphic for this one

Holistic Approach

The HFP Method applies a holistic approach to training, considering the whole human including: Physical training, Mental training, and Lifestyle and Habits. This not only allows our athletes to perform at high levels sustainably, but also flourish as humans at the same time.

Physical training.

The physical training moves you through 3 stages. Stage 1 is about getting out of pain and injury, if present. Stage 2 is about reducing movement inefficiencies and improving weaknesses in your kinetic chains. Stage 3 is about optimising your training to squeeze out the last 10% of performance. The first two stages help you take your foot off the brake, phase 3 teaches you how to intelligently push on the accelerator for uncommon levels of performance.

Mental training.

We have all heard that performance is 90% mental and 10% physical, but how do we take control of our mind in order to perform and live well? At HFP we use practices like meditation, breath work, and short journalling exercises, in combination with strategic planning and reflection and personalised one on one coaching to help you cultivate a healthy and effective Mind-State and Mind-Set. This allows us to have control over, and confidence in, our moment to moment mental experience (Mind-State), and our beliefs, attitudes, and cognitive patterns (Mind-Set).

Lifestyle and habits.

Another thing that sets The HFP Method apart is not only the focus on lifestyle factors like sleep and nutrition, but our emphasis on habits and long term behaviour change. There is no change without consistent work, so habits are the mother of progress. We provide dedicated resources, coaching, and accountability to you so you can learn the lifelong skill of how to cultivate habits that stick.

Highly tailored and personalised to you

Everyone and every challenge is unique, and the best results come from highly tailored solutions. The HFP Method sets itself apart from other approaches because of the level of individualisation both in the programming and coaching we offer. Most coaches have only a hammer and see every athlete as a nail. They offer cookie-cutter programs and try to force every athlete into a predetermined mould. “

At HFP we seek not to have the biggest hammer, but the biggest toolbox. We begin with a thorough holistic assessment to determine your exact limitations in order to develop the most effective and direct path to improvement for you. We also provide intensive and ongoing one on one mentorship and coaching throughout the program to help you troubleshoot any problem and make sure you get maximum results for your efforts. This allows you to have complete confidence in your training by knowing you are being actively guided along own personal route to achieving your goals.

Long-term Focussed and Empowering

“Most coaches work from a model of short term thinking, where the athlete is completely dependent on them for guidance. At HFP we know that the only way we can ensure long term success in our athletes is by empowering them to become their own coaches through education and empowerment. Teaching our athletes how to build bulletproof foundations is a primary goal of our coaching, so we have designed the HFP Method to be as simple and practical as possible. Complexity is the enemy of execution, so our method focuses on doing a few very important things well, instead of getting lost in the insignificant many. While we offer as much support as our athletes need, ultimately our goal is to educate and empower them to continue excelling long after we have finished working together.”
